Lifting is not always that easy

To transport and unload a 154-ton stator from a ship in Mariel and transport it to the power plant, we faced a challenging situation. The two heaviest cranes in Cuba couldn’t handle the task, so we had to rely on an 80-ton ship crane to lift one side while using a 220-ton and a 160-ton crane on the other side.

For this project, we used standard outriggers (as the Multilug wasn’t available in Cuba at the time). We positioned the outriggers via slings at a single point to ensure consistent hoisting speed and prevent variations in hoisting weight.

Following the lifting operation, we transported the stator using a 9-axle lines Scheuerle intercombi trailer with a Volvo 8 x 4 tractor. Our equipment lineup included the 220-ton and 160-ton cranes, the 80-ton ship crane, the 9-axle intercombi trailer, the Volvo tractor, and various outriggers.
